Intro blog

Hi! My name is Kayla and I'm from Green Bay, WI. My life isnt really anything excitng, I'm just doing the whole college thing right now obviously! Madison is a great city and I really like it a lot, but it did take some time to get use to since I've lived in Green Bay my whole life. Whenever I meet new people here, the normal conversation always involves so where are you from? And as I answer Green Bay the response is always without a doubt, oh so your a packers fan? This has been one of the most annoying things ever, but it really got me thinking. I never really considered myself a fan and as much as the Packers do suck, they have always been such a big part of my life.
When the Packers play on Sunday, Green Bay life revolves around that. Almost every household in the city has the game on. The west side is basically off limits from all the Packer traffic. Even I watched the games whenever they were on, I mean that's what Green Bay people do, that's all there really is to do. It's almost a basic instinct people born in Green Bay do, watch the game. If you ever watch Green Bay news or read the paper the headlines are always about the Packers, there really isn't any other news besides the Packers. Brett is just a household name and people talk about him like he's part of the family. There's no need to say his last name, everyone knows who Brett is.
But, being here in Madison, everything revolves around the Badgers. And instead of turning on the news and seeing the Packers, I actually see real news and politics that I don't understand. Being at a new school, with new classes, new friends, and basically a whole new home has really been overwhelming at times this year. But, I found such a great outlet that really brings me back home once a week. And that was Packer games. As tough as it was to watch when they let countless games slip away and even as painful as it was to watch the Bears shutout the Packers at Lambeau, I watched. I suffered withdrawels when the December 21st game wasn't aired in Madison and I couldn't watch. I cheered on Brett Favre all season, and after his emotional breakdown after the last game (which we got the Bears back and won by the way) I even felt a little tear in my eye. So now, being away from Green Bay, a city I really didn't like while i lived there, I guess it has its own uniqueness because of the Packers. So, I must say yes I'm a Packers fan. Yes I'm mad that the Bears are going to the Superbowl. And come on Favre, one more year!
